What is the Good News Post?

We are a local, UK and world newspaper – training up young people to be ‘good news’ Jill Dando News reporters.

The Good News Post covers positive stories from Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, across the UK and the world – all in memory of the kind, smiling and humble BBC journalist Jill Dando.

Since 2017, hundreds of young people aged 8 to 18 have written real-life stories locally, nationally and internationally.

It all started when positive students got together in Jill Dando’s old school, Worle Community School Academy, to remedy the situation of endless bad news.

It was less than a mile from the childhood home of BBC TV star Jill Dando who was murdered in 1999.

Two of our reporters at Jill Dando‘s former school, the brilliant Worle Community School Academy.

The Good News Post began to capture news from Jill’s former town, Weston-super-Mare and Somerset, alongside UK and world news

Three goals of the Good News Post…

✔️ Cover real-life positive news across Weston-super-Mare and Somerset, UK and the world.

✔️ Train thousands of young people to become positive journalists.

✔️ Make the world a better place, turning bad news into good, bringing hope and cheer.

Jill Dando was murdered in London in 1999 at the peak of her powers, becoming the best TV journalist in the land. Not only that, but she ran her life and work with kindness, compassion, and a smile.

But her memory is very much alive with dozens of young reporters across Somerset and Britain writing stories for The Post, with Jill as their inspiration.

She was the smiling face of Britain. Now more than ever, the world needs that smile.
