Students learn real life food production at brilliant bakers with over 100 years’ experience

Students have been enjoying learning about bakery production at a fantastic bakers formed over 100 years ago

The students from King Alfred Community School Academy in Highbridge, Somerset visited Maiseys Bakery.

The visit happened during the Year 7 cooking skills club in an after school trip to @Maiseys.

The students were able to learn their cooking skills on the front line in the production unit of the bakers which delivers across the country. Our Jill Dando News reporters then did research and interviewed workers, students and teachers.

“Welcome to the world of maisey’s bakery. First, the Manager of Maiseys told our Jill Dando News reporters: 

“I get up at 3am and have to be ready at 6am. I enjoy working here. I have worked here since I was 16 and I used to go to King Alfred’s!” 

Student Thalia said: “I love baking and i joined cooking club because I’m not allowed to cook at home as I make too much mess!”

Now let’s hear a fun fact about Maisey’s.

It was first built in 1885 and has been in Highbridge since 1980.

Teacher Mr Smith said: “I like the bakery and I come here all the time.”

The bakery began when a man who had 5 children sent them all out to make bakeries all over Somerset.

They originally opened in Berrow nearby, One of the Grandchildren brought it to Highbridge and their last name was Maisey’s so they named it Maisey’s Bakery.

Worker Paul said: “I like working here and I start working at 4am in the morning I have been working here for about 2 months and I the people I work with.

Student Freya said: “ I baking – it was a 10 out of 10! I like to cook and I joined cooking club because I wanted to experience it.
