Boris, Bear and Jill Dando good news – school caps fantastic year with new teams

An academy has celebrated an incredible year with a new leadership team and the first ever school Head Boy and Girl team for some years alongside record numbers for their sixth form.

Students at the King Alfred School Academy in Somerset have enjoyed their excellent new uniform including tie and blazer, £1.2 million site improvements and fast improving GCSE results.

They have also seen their school launch the Jill Dando News Centre and Britain’s first school-based scout group backed by Bear Grylls and Sir Ranulph Fiennes, as well as a visit from the hot favourite to be Prime Minister Boris Johnson last month.

Now they have a new leadership team, an extra Vice Principal Sebastian Witts to focus on the curriculum, and the appointment of their first Head Boy and Girl team for some years and prefects for Year 11s.

They also have a new President of the Student Union for their Sixth Form for the first time – and record numbers of 160 new students to start there in September – up from 60 last year.

Principal Nathan Jenkins said: “We could not have wished for a better year. It has been hard work but there is a tremendously positive atmosphere across the academy. Our new leadership team and Head Boy and Girl team, as a well as a new President of the Student Union, will help build on this excellent start.”

TKASA has been run by The Priory Learning Trust (TPLT) since 1st October and was assisted for a year before that.

Executive Principal of TPLT, Neville Coles said: “Mr Jenkins and the team at TKASA are doing a superb job. We are delighted that 130 post-16 students are joining TPLT Sixth Form at TKASA this September. Last year we had just 60’.”
