They are only 11 to 15 years old but more new students  are now real-life news reporters – and it is all positive good news.

Pictured here, the students are getting out good news across the world out of The King Alfred School Academy in Highbridge, Somerset.

The Jill Dando News reporters are part of a wider team of over 100 students involved across The Priory Learning Trust in Somerset.

It is a fast-growing legacy of Jill and her kindness, positivity and brilliance.

They find and write real-life positive good news stories in their school, community, town, and across the UK and world. Alan Titchmarsh, the former Prime Minister and many more have been heralding the scheme and stories.

Jill Dando went to nearby Worle Community School Academy, also part of TPLT, before becoming the smiling face of Britain for BBC TV.

As Netflix prepare to screen a new three part documentary this year, the legacy of the former BBCTV star is living on through children, writing good news stories in her home county of Somerset. It had also spread to Malawi in Africa. More good news centres are being planned in her memory.

Jill Dando News was founded by students out of her old school in 2017 and since then her story and skills have been passed on to hundreds of young people.

Her older brother Nigel Dando helps out in the training, and they have had tips from journalists such as Fiona Bruce and Sophie Ridge.

Their stories then go on to the world newspaper they helped to found – www. goodnewspost.co.uk and to the Press and Media.

Principal Dan Milford said: “We are delighted at the enthusiasm of our new Jill Dando News reporters.

“They are already at work generating lots of positive news stories.“

One of the school’s previous pupils, Dawson interviewed the former Prime Minister Boris Johnson in Downing Street in 2019 when he was only 11.

There are Jill Dando News reporters at Worle Community School Academy, Priory Community School Academy, The King Alfred School Academy, St Anne’s Church Academy, Castle Batch School Academy, Pawlett Primary School Academy, West Huntspill Community Primary and East Huntspill Community Primary.

Jill Dando reporters get to interview people in the community as well as high-profile celebrities.
