Students and staff enjoyed a celebration of The King Alfred School Academy’s Christmas spirit and a celebration of our community coming together to celebrate the holidays.

This year, the Mayor of Burnham on Sea came to switch on the lights at at the Highbridge based school in Somerset, staff and students also gathered for the Christmas switch on.

2022 became the year to remember with this year’s lights Switch On, and the amazing student choir who breathed the Christmas spirit into the atmosphere.

Parents, teachers and the Jill Dando News team watched the incredible event live and enjoyed all of it.

During the event, we spoke to some of the teachers about their thoughts and feelings from the special night.

Principal, Dan Milford said: “I’m really happy with the whole event and am delighted with how many people came.

“Our choir and all the students are amazingly talented.

“All the technology worked brilliantly and the lights came on successfully.”

He also said he couldn’t wait for the upcoming whole school musical next summer.

Sally-Ann Herrington, who aided Mr Milford in organising the event, said how she loved the event and that it makes her feel Christmassy.

Her favourite part was the choir. She also touched on how thankful she was that there were no COVID restrictions this year and could be attended by all age groups from toddlers to adults!

The Mayor Cllr Lesley Millard said: “I really liked how everyone was participating and trying their best. Jinglebells was my favourite song because the audience joined in as well”.

Head of sixth form, Doug Radnidge, loved the singing and was pleased by the attendance of the Mayor.

Looking at all the teachers’ comments, it is clear to see this event has been a special part of the school since it started and it is cherished by TKASA and the community.

Overall, the community today realised the true meaning of Christmas: it’s a time to rejoice and come together. This year’s Switch On will be remembered and cherished for a very long time!
