Hayden and Ollie, 10, investigate Bonfire Night and its history

By Hayden and Ollie, aged 10, Jill Dando News

With Bonfire Night coming up every November, our Jill Dando News reporters investigated why we mark the event.

In 1605 a group of 12 men including Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament in London. This happened because he believed in the Catholic religion.

During this time the king was stuck between  two sides; his wife was Catholic but the Government  wanted the Catholics dead.

Remember every bonfire night to make sure to follow these safety tips:

•  If you are having sparklers make sure to have a bucket of water or sand and a grown up.

• Make sure you go to an organised display.

• If you are having a display at home make sure you have an adult lighting the fireworks.

• If a firework has not gone of don’t go up to it. Mrs sweet a year 6 teacher is going to an organised display.

Hopefully no one gets hurt in future displays and events.
