As England gets excited for its World Cup progress, a school football team in Somerset are having their own soccer success.

The talented Year 11 Priory Community School Academy students in Weston-super-Mare are in the last 32 in the country out of 640.

They are the only team from the South West apart from the school that takes elite Southampton Academy players at Beechen Cliff school.

It is the furthest the school has ever been in the competition and with only one goal conceded, so far, their defence has been fantastic.

Fresh from a one nil victory at a school in Weymouth, the team now await to hear about the next opponents.

PE teacher Neil Clark said: “The Year 11 team in the past struggled with availability, but this year the commitment has been there and they are reaping the rewards.

“They are playing some superb football, are a team, and they fight for each other.

“The defence has been rock solid, only conceding 1 goal in the competition all year.

“This is the furthest we have ever been in the competition and I know the boys are hoping for another ‘away day’.”
