Support Weston Hospicecare, this Christmas

By Jill Dando News

Weston Hospicecare – massively helped by Jill Dando before her death – have launched their Christmas fundraising appeal.

Packs, which are landing with supporters, detail the imperative need to back the charity.

The hospice has provided palliative care to people in Weston-super-Mare and much of the North Somerset region for close to 35 years.

Director of Patient Services, John Bailey, says “We get less than 20% of our overall running costs from the government. It’s not fair but it is simply how it is.

“That is why we are appealing for support again this Christmas, because we simply cannot do it without you.”

The appeal, named Caring Together this Christmas, has been backed by generous pledgers, including BrisDoc, meaning every donation which contributes to the first £20,000 raised will be matched; leading to £40,000 of resource for the hospice.

John continues “As ever your hospice will be caring throughout Christmas, because for our patients and their families, there is no holiday or Christmas break and that is why your help is so desperately needed.”

As 2023 closes, the hospice has cared for close to 2,000 people across North Somerset.

It costs £5.5million a year to run and with only 20% provided by the local Integrated Care Board, support from the community is vital.
