Weston Hospicecare’s Pines for Pounds charity Christmas tree collection will return in early 2024.
The initiative provides the public with a Christmas tree collection in exchange for a donation to Weston Hospicecare – a charity hugely supported by Jill Dando in the 1990s in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.
It is supported by local Rotary clubs, Weston Lions and Somerset Young Farmers in support of the charity.
It will take place on Saturday 6 January 2024. The collection will cover much of region including areas such as Weston-super-Mare, Burnham-on-Sea, Yatton and Cheddar.
Supporters, within specific postcodes (identified below), can book a slot via Weston Hospicecare’s website.
On the day, supporters need to ensure the trees are placed in an obvious collection location (I.E Visible from the road).
Weston Hospicecare’s Community Fundraising Manager, Kirsty Simmons, says “Are you planning on buying a real Christmas tree this year?
“We are thrilled to see Pines for Pounds become a huge community collaboration involving Weston Rotary, Mendip Rotary, Burnham-on-Sea Rotary, Wrington Vale
Rotary, Weston-super-Mare Lions and Young Farmers, as well as additional support from Enterprise and Mercedes-Benz Weston-super-Mare.
“The collection saves everyone with a real Christmas tree within the collecting area a trip to the recycling centre.
“It’s such a fantastic idea and saves us all a job while supporting a local charity and making a huge difference to people locally.
“A huge thank you again to everyone involved in making Pines for Pounds a wonderful fundraising initiative”.
The last event raised more than £17,000 for the hospice and in total it has raised £29,500 over the three years it has run to date.
Pauline Land, from Weston Rotary, says “We’re delighted to be involved in supporting Pines for Pounds once again.
“It’s such an incredible initiative and we cannot wait to play our part on 6 January.
“What better than to put your Christmas tree to great use for a fabulous charity”.
Grant Parris, from Weston Lions, added “This is the first year that Weston Lions are supporting this fabulous cause and we cannot wait.”
