The FUCHSIA Cancer Support Group held a coffee morning at the NightJar Pub in Worle, Somerset where they raised over £150 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The group welcomed Weston-super-Mare Mayor Cllr Sonia Russe and Deputy Mayor Cllr Peter McAleer and Deputy Mayoress Marianne McAleer, as a flurry of visitors sample cake, tea and coffee.

Mayor Cllr Russe, said: “I’d like to thank everyone at the FUCHSIA group for inviting myself, the Deputy Mayor and the Deputy Mayoress to their Macmillan coffee morning.

“It was a pleasure to speak with all their members, and I look forward to visiting again soon."

The group FUCHSIA meets just a stone’s throw from Jill Dando’s childhood home in Worle, and school, Worle Community School Academy, where students write positive stories in her memory.

FUCHSIA, which stands for Friendship, Understanding, Cancer Help and Support in Abundance, have been running since 2010 and meet every Thursday, 10 am - 12 noon at the NightJar, who kindly provide a room for no charge.

The group continued throughout the Covid lockdowns, with group lead, Julie Crowther, phoning the members almost every week to keep in touch.

Julie said: “We were thrilled to see so many people attend our coffee morning, including the Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Deputy Mayoress. It was a tremendous event and we are delighted to pass on over £150 to Macmillan who do such tremendous work.”

All their members helped organise and deliver the coffee morning, bringing in plenty of cakes and welcoming visitors.

Di Bradley, Owner of the NightJar Pub, said “The FUCHSIA group have called the NightJar home for the past 9 years and we’re delighted to continue supporting them.

“This was the first Macmillan coffee morning they have held post Covid, and we look forward to hosting their next one."

FUCHSIA's doors are always open to new members. Contact Julie on 07896699627 or
