A top UK conductor and composer has inspired further the students of Worle Community School Academy in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.

Creative Conductor and top UK Composer David Ogden encourages students to go for their dreams and ‘get on and do it’.

The Bristol-based conductor and composer who conducts the Bristol Youth Choirs, Exultate, and many more choral groups, was invited to be interviewed by the Jill Dando News Team at WCSA, and the school’s stunning Choir.

Students from Jill Dando News and from across the school’s music department asked him a range of questions about his long and varied career.

Frequently assigned tasks, he ‘writes down a piece of music that the performers will enjoy.’

When asked what advice he would give to a young composer, he said to ‘just write it down, without thinking about it.’ He also mentioned ‘keeping spare pieces’ as you could use them in music in the future.

As a member of the Royal School of Church Music, some of the events he has conducted and composed for are the BBC Food and Farming Awards, weddings, funerals, the opening for the M-shed and Cabot Circus.

One of his pieces has even been performed in front of the pope in a baseball stadium in America, with over 40,000 people watching!

Oliver, Oscar and Rupert of Jill Dando News are three of over 100 Jill Dando Journalists who find, write and publish positive good news out across the world in memory of Jill.

Jill Dando is also a former student of WCSA where the project began.
