Terrific students win prestigious accolade

Superb students who show outstanding character as well as sporting excellence have been rewarded with a prestigious ‘Sports Captain’ accolade.

Some 12 students Worle Community School Academy (WCSA) in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset were given the prized Sports Captain Badge for being brilliant role models for others.

One of them included Izzy Blackhurst who is the fastest 14 year old female swimmer in Britain.

Others were also praised for their sports but also a range of character attributes including leadership, kindness, compassion, care, positivity, enthusiasm, politeness

Those rewarded include Jess, Willow, Evie, Stan, Luke, Emma, Sienna, Sofia, Troy, Jess and Zack.

Principal Jacqui Scott said: “All these students throughly deserve their Sports Captain Badges. They have demonstrated exceptional character alongside their sporting excellence.”

WCSA is part of The Priory Learning Trust (TPLT).

Neville Coles, CEO of TPLT, said: “Sport is so important especially at this time of a global pandemic; we must ensure all our young people emerge stronger through extra-curricular activities.

“It is such an important aspect of school life.”

Since becoming part of TPLT in 2016, the Academy has seen many campus improvements including a £400,000 refurbished auditorium and sports hall.

The Academy has a wonderful caring and high achieving ethos, excellent extracurricular provision including the Jill Dando News Centre and the groundbreaking eco-club Climate Justice Revolution. 

The WCSA motto is ‘We Challenge and Support to Achieve’, resulting in students who thrive in all areas.
