Student leaders at an inspirational school are seeing their new LGBT support group thrive

By Jill Dando News

No Labels support group was launched in September at Worle Community School Academy in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.

Student leaders Jay, Jazmin and Jack worked with Mrs John to create a group to promote diversity and support the school’s LGBT+ youth.

Now students take part in LGBT+ based activities, meet new friends and receive confidential guidance from the three student leaders who are trained Peer Listeners.

Their No Labels website can be used by students to access information about the club, find helplines & useful websites and view advice from students. The website can be found at www.no-labels-wcsa.weebly.com.

No Labels long-term aim is to raise the profile of the LGBT+ community by educating students on LGBT+ issues while also making sure students continue to feel safe at WCSA.

One of No Labels students leaders, Jack said, “It’s great to see the amazing impact No Labels has had at WCSA by increasing the visibility of the LGBT+ community.

“It’s extremely important to us that we make our local community more accepting of LGBT+ youth to allow them to feel safe and supported.”
