Katy Adams, of Castle Batch Primary School Academy in Weston-super-Mare, won the school’s ‘Heroes’ Award.

Inspired by Sir David Attenborough’s TV programmes when aged 7, Katy has since organised litter picks most weekends and is passionate about reducing the amount of plastic on the streets.

She now takes her friends on the litter trail.

Katy now has a day out at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre, for her family to enjoy a free day of activities.

Castle Batch has a Jill Dando News Centre (JDNC) where inspirational children such as Katy are covered by the Media.

Proud mum Becky said: “She is filling up bin bags of rubbish which then goes to recycling. Everywhere we go, she is always picking up bits of rubbish. She is massively passionate about saving our planet. Kate is a credit to the area and I could not be more proud of her.”

Castle Batch is a high-achieving and happy community primary school and part of The Priory Learning Trust. All their schools are passionate about the environment. http://www.castlebatch.n-somerset.sch.uk
