The St Anne’s Church Academy Pupils in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset excitedly got their green fingers to work in the picturesque school gardens.

The pupils have returned happy and delighted to be back at school after the few months break.

The St Anne’s Church Academy Gardening club grows blackberries, strawberries; onions; garlic, potatoes, corn on the cob and much more.

Local people and business have donated items including a greenhouse, seeds and compost.

They even get to eat every fruit and vegetable that grows inside the club.

The school was the first in the county to plant a Jill Dando apple tree in memory of the TV star, donated by Sanders Garden Centre and helped by Alan Titchmarsh.

Acting headteacher Emma Hardy Smith said: “The pupils have returned very happy and excited and have been real stars at planting the flowers to ready the school for summer.”
