World’s best! Incredible Gold for brilliant students

Five students are officially the world’s best after winning a stunning gymnastics gold medal.

With a great passion for gymnastics, Nicole, Maria, Niamh, Lottie and Megan competed in a team of 5 and secured a gold medal in their first international competition in Cantanhede, Portugal, for Great Britain’s team. 

The students, all aged 11 or 12, of Worle Community School Academy in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset pulled off a string of stunning performances.

Niamh told our Jill Dando News reporters, ”It was a truly unforgettable experience.”

The Portuguese International Open Aerobic World championships also saw Nicole and Niamh joined by team mate Grace to compete as a trio to win a silver medal.

And Lily-Jean also competed as an individual and came 11th out of 45 competitors. 

Nicole, Maria, Niamh and Lottie will now represent Great Britain at the aerobic world championships  in Portugal this month. 

They all attend Weston Gymnastics Centre.  

Lottie said, “We are so pleased. This was our first year in this category and it was surprising to win. I would like to do this as a career.”

Principal Jacqui Scott said: “This was a tremendous performance. The sheer dedication to their training is phenomenal.

“We are all really proud of our students.”
