Year 5 pupils at Barton Hill Academy in Torquay learnt the French names for nations across the world with an innovative classroom tour of the teams in this year’s World Cup.

Each student researched a country and learnt its name in French, before writing up their discoveries.

The school aims to enrich pupils with a variety of fun and exciting activities. Students learn French and Spanish from an early age and Barton Hill emphasises its importance by placing it in the centre of the curriculum.

Head of Foreign Languages Paula Bell said: “The World Cup is so close now and pupils were very excited to talk about it and what we did really brought learning alive.”
