Weston-super-Mare judoist, Lele Nairne, will be representing Team GB at this summer’s Olympics in Paris.
Born and raised in Weston super-Mare and a former student of Priory Community School Academy Lele is an incredible athlete and has dedicated more than half of her life to pursue her dream of becoming an Olympic medalist.
Through 18 years of total commitment, sacrifice and relentless training, Lele is one step closer to her goal and will be competing in Paris on Monday 29 July within the 57kg weight category.
Lele Nairne, 26, said: “The journey to get to this point has been filled with the highest of highs and lowest of lows but it’s been worth every minute to say I have officially qualified for the Olympic Games at just 26.
“I’ve learnt so much over the years but the biggest takeaway from the sporting world is that if you really want something you must go and get it. Even during the most difficult challenges, you need to have an ongoing belief in yourself and your ability. Never doubt yourself and continue to push forward to achieve your goals and ambitions.”
Unlike other competitors at this summer’s Olympics, Lele is the only independent judoist to qualify which means she took all of her financial backing and sponsorship into her own hands.
Lele approached numerous businesses within the South West and found support from a Weston-based marketing, media and technology company that prioritises giving back to the local community.
As a company driven to be a force for good, the Ascot Group has been working closely with Lele for the last two years.
Impressed by her passion and commitment to succeed, it was a no brainer for the business to wholeheartedly support the young Judo star to achieve her aspiration of becoming an Olympic medalist.
Andrew Scott, CEO and founder of the Ascot Group, said: “Lele’s drive and passion for Judo is truly inspirational. She lives and breathes everything associated with the sport and qualifying for the Paris Olympic Games is testament to this.
“As a business, we’re passionate about giving back to inspirational local causes, charities and individuals wanting to make a big difference and Lele is the perfect example of someone with an unwavering determination to succeed, no matter what obstacles she faces.
“It’s been incredible to sponsor and support Lele over the last few years and we can’t wait to cheer her on as she takes on this next challenge. We’re so proud of everything she’s achieved, and we have every confidence she’ll do a fantastic job.”
This summer’s Olympic judo competition is set to take place between Saturday 27 July and Saturday 3 August at the Arena Champ-de-Mars.
