Purplex, a UK-leading marketing company based next to Worle Train Station in Somerset, has been nominated for a prestigious regional award.

The high-performing firm, which was founded 20 years ago this year, has been shortlisted in the ‘Investment’ category of the South West Business Awards 2024.

The awards have been created to celebrate the very best business successes from across the region.

Judges recognised the impact of investments that Purplex has made in people, technology, buildings, resources and infrastructure.

They also assessed the community impact of Purplex including their support for local charities, including homeless charity Somewhere To Go and Gympanzees.

Almost 70 shortlisted companies from across the region’s most successful and innovative sectors will showcase their achievements on November 14 at the Bristol Harbour Hotel, Bristol.

Purplex was nominated following a rigorous selection process involving both written and video presentations.

From budget beginnings on a kitchen table, CEO Andrew Scott has built the firm into a multi-million pound concern that owns a suite of offices and employs more than 100 staff at its headquarters in Worle, North Somerset.

Andrew said: “We’re delighted to be shortlisted for this prestigious award, and I’d like to wish all those shortlisted the best of luck.

“I’m particularly pleased that we’ve been selected for the ‘Investment’ category.

“From the beginning, I knew that investment both in staff and buildings would pay off, and this has been the case. “Businesses of all shapes and sizes can’t remain static – they have to grow, and investing in the things that will facilitate growth is the answer.”

Andrew started the business as a marketing consultancy firm and one of its main goals from the outset was to build a world-class business based in Weston-Super-Mare.

The latter was an important requirement, because Andrew recognised that Weston had plenty of homegrown talent which could be harnessed, instead of seeing it leave every morning to work in Bristol.

Investment in property has also paid off.

The company’s first office opened in 2007 above an estate agency and has grown to encompass two purpose-built offices with more than 15,000 sq. ft of space.

People remain at the heart of Purplex’s unique brand – both customers and staff.

While Covid-19 and its aftermath saw many firms lay off employees, Purplex took the opposite view, beginning an active recruitment drive to boost numbers.

Unlike many companies that stick to a top-down approach to business decisions, Purplex staff are encouraged to fully engage in an on-going strategy for future growth in new and exciting directions.
