Denmark has been crowned the happiest nation for seniors in the world.
A new United Nations report has named Denmark the happiest country in the world for those over age 60.
Finland finished second.
The World Happiness Report cited the Nordic nation's robust social welfare system, emphasis on equality, and cultural values as keys of contentment among its senior population.
Experts say universal healthcare, free education, pensions, and a strong social safety net provide financial freedom for aging Danes to pursue meaningful activities and relationships.
The society's lack of excessive ambition and tendency to prioritize close bonds also contribute to higher life satisfaction levels.
"Danish seniors cultivate deep, enriching relationships without societal pressures to relentlessly chase wealth or status," noted researcher Søren Klausen. "They can focus on what intrinsically brings them joy."
Researchers suggest that while Denmark's advantages are difficult to replicate, embracing emotional self-awareness, rewarding personal interests, and nurturing strong relationships could boost contentment anywhere.
Finland ranked second overall in the report's happiness rankings, followed by other Nordic countries.
The United States did not make the top 10.
