Space hoppers, welly wanging and more as community raises cash for inspirational playing fields renovation
By Jill Dando News
Community spirit, fun and fundraising raised cash for Blagdon Playing Fields Association (BPFA) in Somerset.
The BPFA are on a mission to breathe life back into the aging tennis court space and are striving to create an inclusive environment with sports facilities and activities for the whole community of Blagdon.
We expect to create an enduring positive impact on the village's active lifestyle, mental wellbeing and sense of community pride.
The two charity events so far, Yeo Valley meal and Blagfest have raised almost £8,000.
Hundreds of locals attended the event, and residents and local groups provided entertainment and sporting activities, all compared by Dr Phil Hammond.
In the arena, there was the return of the Space Hopper races, a signature event for the Blagdon Sports Day (last sports day held in 2007).
Wellie Wanging, tennis, cricket, golf, and football events were all provided by local societies and volunteers.
Additionally, the event was sponsored by Penny Plant Hire’s hot air balloon, and supported by local voluntary groups Blagsaey art and Blagdon Fire Crew, as well asBishop Sutton Tennis Club.
Finally the live event stage saw performers from local dance group from Clevedon School CYD, alongside talented residents: DJ Tactical Raver, Rowan & James, Lucas and Tina Pulchino Band. The event concluded with a crowd pleasing set from Yatton based band, SPLAT!
