Samaritans' Longest Night 2024: Thank you for lighting up green
By Jill Dando News
Heritage sites, public buildings, and companies joined a national campaign to raise awareness of Samaritans in Ireland this Christmas.
Samaritans Ireland's annual Longest Night appeal took place on Saturday, 21 December, the longest night of the year. The campaign reminds those struggling to cope over the festive period that Samaritans' helpline is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, even at Christmas.
From dusk on Saturday, 21 December, buildings and landmarks across Ireland lit up green for The Longest Night to raise awareness of Samaritans this Christmas.
Samaritans' 116 123 helpline provides emotional support to whoever needs it, whenever they need it, 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, including Christmas Day. On that day alone, over 100 volunteers across Ireland will answer over 1,000 calls for help and lend a listening ear to those in need.
