Rain will soon be on the way but don’t despair it’s good news!

Many parts of the UK have enjoyed good summer sunshine in recent weeks
As we all know rain will soon be on the way but for those of us who are sun lovers, it’s not all bad news.
Walking on a rainy day can actually be good for you!
Scientists have discovered that rain can make us happy and improve our mental health and it involves negative ‘ions’.
Research is taking place into the effects of negative ions, but it is thought they may boost our mood, relieve stress and give us more energy.
Dr Niek Buurma of Cardiff University told BBC News why:
He said: "There are quite a lot of scientific studies that suggest that inhaling these negative ions has a positive effect on your health.
"Nobody really knows exactly why that happens. But there are clear indications that people feel more positive after inhaling negative ions.
"There are indications from the scientific literature that exposure to negative ions lifts your mood. It can be used to treat a seasonal affective disorder.“
In the UK there are on average 159 days of rain every year, and in Wales there is even more of the stuff with 173 days on average.
Scientists have shown that when rain splashes on the ground, some of the molecules that make up the air, pick up an electron, and become negatively charged ions.
When we inhale them, it is thought they can help to relieve stress and even boost our energy levels.
So when autumn comes and the rain comes down, remember the good news that rain is actually good for you!
