Popular Poppy wows students and staff

Students at a brilliant Bridgwater secondary school are enjoying one of the most popular staff members ever.

Poppy the therapy dog helps students by easing anxieties, relaxing them during exam time and even helping with outside Bush Craft lessons at Robert Blake Science College.

The four-year-old cute, fun and friendly Labrador is also very popular with staff who also benefit her peace-inducing qualities.

She also helps with confidence building, eye contact, patience, body language and listening skills.

Poppy was bought by a support teacher who then took her through dog therapy training.

Head Teacher Deb Loveridge said: “Poppy has been a fantastic addition to our brilliant school. She is popular with students and staff and helps in so many situations.

“Poppy even joins in with Bush Craft activities which helps many children thrive with outside learning.”

The school is enjoying a golden era of success with two record-breaking GCSE years, amazing increases in Progress 8 statistics and has one of the best school buildings in Britain.

Robert Blake aims to aspire, achieve and celebrate with every student in the school, bringing learning alive.
