New Study Unveils Cambridge as the UK’s Top City for Dog-Friendly Hotels in 2024

Cambridge has been named the UK’s most dog-friendly city for 2024, according to a recent study by Dog-friendlyHotels.com.
The study by Dog-friendlyHotels.com analyzed data from Tripadvisor and YouGov to identify the top dog-friendly cities and regions in the UK by the number of dog-friendly hotels.
Key Highlights
Cambridge:
#1 Dog-Friendly City in the UK by number of dog-friendly hotels.
Cambridge stands out as the most dog-friendly city in the UK, with 46.31% of its hotels welcoming dogs (113 out of 244). While only 6.6% of these are rated 4+ stars, the variety and availability of options make Cambridge a clear winner for dog-loving travellers.
Carlisle & Durham:
- Carlisle has 31.9% dog-friendly hotels, 28.4% of which are highly rated.
- Durham offers a strong mix of availability and quality for dog-friendly stays.
London & Liverpool:
- London, despite its vast hotel count, has only 4.4% dog-friendly options.
- Liverpool ranks lowest for dog-friendly hotels but holds significant potential given its popularity among travelers.
Regional Leaders
East of England:
The East of England is the leading dog-friendly region by hotel count, with 24.4% of all hotels on Tripadvisor allowing pets. The region has the highest number of pet-friendly hotels, as 155 out of 564 hotels welcome pets.
North West England:
North West England tops the ranking for quality, boasting the highest percentage (11.2%) of dog-friendly hotels rated 4 stars or higher.
Study Methodology The study is based on a YouGov poll of the UK's most popular travel cities (Q2 2024), with data collected in August 2024.
Tripadvisor data was used to analyze dog-friendly hotels across 36 cities, focusing on accommodations rated 4+ stars to highlight quality.
Cities were ranked based on the availability and quality of pet-friendly hotels.
