By Jill Dando News
Manchester City and Portugal national team defender Rúben Dias has officially become a patron of the Anti-Bullying Alliance (ABA), a leading organisation in the UK dedicated to preventing bullying and creating safer environments for young people.
This partnership brings together one of football’s most respected leaders with a charity at the forefront of the anti-bullying movement.
As a player known for his leadership on the pitch and his commitment to teamwork and respect, Rúben Dias is a perfect fit for ABA’s mission. His influence extends beyond his remarkable defensive skills; he is widely admired for his integrity, sportsmanship, and dedication to making a positive impact in the community.
By aligning with ABA, Dias is lending his voice and platform to a cause that sadly affects millions of children across the UK.
The Anti-Bullying Alliance, based at the children’s charity the National Children’s Bureau, provides anti-bullying training and support to over 20,000 school and children’s staff each year and coordinates Anti-Bullying Week, an annual event each November that reaches over 7.5 million children, highlighting the devastating impact bullying can have on young lives.
The theme for this year, "Choose Respect", is a call to action for everyone—young people and adults—to choose respect over bullying.
Rúben Dias’ role as a patron will involve raising awareness through various initiatives, speaking at an event in Parliament in Anti-Bullying Week, encouraging young people to choose respect over bullying, and promoting kindness as a fundamental value.
His involvement is expected to inspire many, particularly young football fans, to embrace the principles of respect and inclusivity.
Rúben Dias said:
“I really appreciate the opportunity to contribute to the cause. As athletes, we have a platform to inspire and uplift, and it's our responsibility to use it to stand against bullying in all its forms. Together, we can show young people that kindness and respect are the real signs of strength and the real path to success."
Martha Evans, Director of the Anti-Bullying Alliance, expressed her enthusiasm for the partnership:
"We’re thrilled to welcome Rúben Dias as a patron of the Anti-Bullying Alliance. His leadership and commitment to respect both on and off the pitch make him an inspiring role model. With his support, we can amplify our message and encourage everyone to Choose Respect."
Rúben Dias’ involvement with the Anti-Bullying Alliance will not only shine a spotlight on the importance of kindness and respect but also reinforce the message that everyone has a role to play in ending bullying. His leadership, both on and off the field, will undoubtedly help create a safer and more inclusive environment for young people across the UK.
