Kind and thoughtful student becomes youngest in town to mentor children in library reading challenge

Emily Binding, Year 10 at Worle Community School Academy, spent weeks over the summer in Weston library mentoring local school children.

She was the youngest mentor in the reading challenge which aims to encourage British children and students to read.

Emily herself reads an impressive three to four books a week.

WCSA try to encourage as many students as possible to volunteer in their local community during their spare time to teach the values of giving back, being kind and mentoring.

Emily said: “I really enjoyed helping people, it made me feel so good and I got to read so many books. I plan to help even more students next year!”

She has also become a young leader at her Girl Guide group and organises group events among other adult leaders.

WCSA’s Principal Jacqui Scott said: “The library reading scheme is brilliant and it’s great to hear that Emily did so much fantastic work during her time there.”
