“I’m not the King!” Funny moment as Mayor of Jill Dando’s home town is interviewed by pupil reporters

The mayor of Jill Dando’s home town has been interviewed by budding reporters in her memory from Ashcombe Primary School.

Cllr Ciaran Cronnelly visited the school to speak about his role and how he helps the residents of Weston. 

Some of the younger children even thought he was the King!

Whilst there, the mayor was interviewed by Jill Dando News reporters. The children find and write local, national and global good news stories with kindness, positivity and brilliance – just like Jill herself in her journalism career, which she started with the Weston Mercury and went on to work for the BBC.

Jill was tragically killed in 1999, but her legacy lives on through her family and the news organisation.

Posting on Facebook, the mayor said: “Loved visiting Ashcombe Primary School and talking to the children about my role as mayor, and being interviewed by the Jill Dando newsroom young reporters!”
