Hollywood actor Hugh Grant and wife Anna have donated £20,000 Christmas gift to Britain's kindest plumber.

Hugh and wife Anna Elisabet Eberstein donated a staggering £20,000 to James Anderson, 55, from Burnley as a 'wonderful Christmas gift'.

James told social media platform X - formerly known as Twitter- how they had made the £20,000 donation to his charity DEPHER, which stands for Disabled and Elderly, Plumbing and Heating Emergency Response.

Being kind is one of the founding principles of Jill Dando News where students aged 8 to 18 write positive good news stories as well as being kind, humble and brilliant.

The plumber, who provides free work for elderly and disabled customers, wrote: 'After speaking privately to @HackedOffHugh and Anna Grant. I have permission to share their wonderful #Christmas gift to @Depheruk.

'This wonderful and humbling donation of £20,000.00 will give hope to thousands of people, families and children, especially with the #CostOfLivingCrisis.

'They both have my lifetime of respect and love.'

The kind gesture provoked an outpouring of support to James, with many saying it was 'hugely generous' of the couple.

James has become well known for being kind by fixing pipes and boilers for vulnerable customers free of charge.

His acts of kindness went viral after a picture of his bill for £0 sent to a 91-year-old woman with acute leukemia was posted online.

The receipt for the boiler repair was accompanied by a note reading: 'No charge for this lady under any circumstances. We will be available 24 hours to help her and keep her as comfortable as possible.'
