Good News Post Reporters Witness History in Parliament

By Jill Dando News
Two young reporters from The Good News Post are at the heart of history this morning, joining Mr. Speaker in the House of Commons for a groundbreaking event—the youngest person ever to speak in Parliament.
Ben and Oliver, both 14 and students at Jill Dando’s former school, Worle School in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset are inside the iconic chamber as 10-year-old Owen Glass from Tristan da Cunha addresses the House during the annual sitting of the UK Youth Parliament (UKYP).
The Young reporters will join sky News and ITV and others in the incredible historic event.
Oliver has already made history himself as the world’s first Teenage Parliamentary Correspondent for The Good News Post.
He recently cemented his place in youth journalism by releasing a powerful interview with the Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, on YouTube.
A rising star in the world of positive news, Oliver was also named the Jill Dando News Journalist of the Year, a prestigious award recognising his commitment to uplifting stories and his trailblazing work in Parliament.
Today, Oliver is reporting on another first—10-year-old Owen Glass’s speech in the Commons Chamber.
Owen, who comes from the remote island of Tristan da Cunha, 1,750 miles from South Africa, will become the youngest person ever to address the House.
His journey to London took over a week by sea and air, and he will share insights into life on the British Overseas Territory, home to just 230 people, one school, one pub, and no restaurants.
“I’m very excited to speak in the House of Commons,” Owen said. “The biggest audience I’ve ever spoken to before was as a wise man in the school nativity, which was watched by half the island!”
Ben, also reporting live from Parliament today, is no stranger to making headlines himself.
During a recent visit to Westminster with the Jill Dando News team, he boldly questioned Sir Lindsay Hoyle on how Parliament can re-engage younger voters.
As debates unfold on issues like votes for 16- and 17-year-olds, access to political education, and free public transport for young people, Ben and Oliver are capturing every moment for The Good News Post.
Some 261 young people aged 11 to 18 will take over the House of Commons Chamber today, raising their voices on the issues that matter most to the next generation.

With Oliver and Ben on the frontlines of this historic day, The Good News Post continues to lead the way in showcasing positive stories and giving young journalists a powerful platform to be heard.
Over recent years, they’ve had the backing from two prime ministers and have interviewed Boris Johnson inside Downing Street.
Alongside setting up the good news rooms in the UK they also set one up in Malawi in 2018.

Stay tuned for their exclusive interviews and behind-the-scenes coverage as history is made in the heart of British democracy.
