Gold for Buckingham Palace bound students

By Jill Dando News

Brilliant The King Alfred School Academy students in Somerset have achieved the rare prestigious Duke of Edinburgh gold award – just weeks after leaving the sixth form.

Catherine Tolley, Katie Bea Robinson, Lilly Keeley Watts and Amber Dinham are pictured left to right after finishing their final 4-day expedition in the Brecon Beacons. To get the award they had to complete numerous challenging tasks over four years with the Gold part taking two years.

If it had not been for lockdown, they would have completed their Gold award several months ago.

Now they will be heading to Buckingham Palace to pick up their award in the New Year.

Head of Sixth Form Jonathan Gaskell said: “We are so proud of the students – The Duke of Edinburgh Gold award is a prestigious accolade.

“The girls really worked very hard for their Awards and thoroughly deserve their day at Buckingham Palace.

“In a difficult year these four have demonstrated fantastic character and determination.”

TKASA sixth form is a high-achieving school-based sixth form.
