FSB Insurance Service Raises Over £30,000 to Help Tackle Knife Crime in Croydon

By Community Correspondent
When the small team at FSB Insurance Service pledged to support a local charity tackling youth violence, they never imagined it would lead to over £30,000 raised in just one year.
But through grit, passion, and community support, that’s exactly what they’ve done, all to back Lives Not Knives (LNK) in their mission to end knife crime in Croydon.
This achievement comes as the borough faces a surge in violence, with 1,086 knife-related incidents reported between April 2022 and September 2023, up 24.5%.
Behind those numbers are real lives and heartbreaking stories, including the tragic loss of Elianne Andam, a 15-year-old girl stabbed just meters away from FSB Insurance Service’s office.

LNK works with young people aged 9 to 21, offering mentorship, education, and safe spaces that give them alternatives to violence. Inspired by the charity’s impact, the small but determined team at FSB Insurance Service chose LNK as their Charity of the Year for 2024.
One of the campaign highlights?
A 30-mile trek across the South Downs, completed in 15 hours by Finance Manager Vicky and Marketing Manager Duncan. The event was more than just a physical challenge, it became a rallying point for donations and awareness.
“We’re just a small business, but small businesses can do big things when we care enough. It was tough, but every step reminded us why we were doing it.” said Vicky.
Tackling the Crisis Head On
Lives Not Knives is on the front lines, engaging young people aged 9-21 through tailored mentorship and educational programs that address the root causes of youth violence.
Key initiatives include:
● One-on-One Mentoring – Empowering young individuals to navigate the complexities of education, family life, and personal development.
● Educational Roadshows – Interactive sessions in schools that raise awareness about the dangers of knife crime, life skills, and promote positive choices.
● Youth Hub – A safe and welcoming space where young people can access workshops and community support.
Through this year-long initiative, FSB Insurance Service raised over £30,000 through a variety of events and was significantly boosted by generous contributions from the Markel International Matched Giving Fund and the Aviva Broker Community Fund.
These funds will enable LNK to expand its vital mentorship and education programs for young people, directly addressing the factors contributing to youth violence.
“This funding allows us to continue supporting young people, empowering
them to make positive choices.” said Eliza M Reberio, CEO of Lives Not Knives.
“We are proud to stand behind Lives Not Knives. This partnership aligns
perfectly with our values of protecting communities and investing in young
people’s futures.” stated David Perry, CEO of FSB Insurance Service.
A Community United Against Violence Join Us in Making a Difference
This campaign proves that size doesn’t limit impact. FSB Insurance Service is calling on other small businesses to consider how they can give back to their local community, whether through fundraising, volunteering, or simply spreading the word.
“If a small team like ours can help raise £30,000, imagine the difference we
could make if more local businesses got involved.” said Duncan.
