For the second time in a week, the Fleece in Bristol featured the best of music from the Lone Star state. Today it was Flatland Cavalry ably supported by Kaitlin Butt.

I will start with the very impressive support act Kaitlin Butt, who is from Tulsa in Oklahoma and has a real twang to her great voice. She came onto the stage with just her guitar and almost immediately captivated the audience with her performance. That says much as most do not go to see the support act.

She is a storyteller introducing many of her hard-edged songs with a story. She has clearly been through some hard times in her life but tells the stories with humour.

Her performance was vibrant. Her singing was full of power. Her songwriting was top-notch. Many of her songs might have had a hard edge but there is hope with the great song “It won’t always be this way”.

Country music is about life and truth, she says. She is right and it is what makes country music so special. She has the talent to headline shows and it might not be long before she does. Her new album Roadrunner is well worth checking out.

Kaitlin Butts was so impressive she was a hard act to follow but Flatland Cavalry from Lubbock Texas did with aplomb and show why they are growing in popularity.

Cleto Cordero is an unassuming lead singer who sings plain and simple without vocal gymnastics. He has a band of very talented musicians who produce a good tight sound.

A country group with a pop country sound that has some grit to it. Good simple gimmick free well written songs well sung and well played which entertain as they play fast and slow.

City Breaking in Italy - Holiday Review
By Adam Hunter, Jill Dando News Correspondent Italy only became a country as such in 1861 so it is a fairly new country (politically), but it has a long history and is one of my favourite places to visit. There is so much to see, lots of culture, great food,

Some great songs including Last American Summer. Kaitlin Butts was brought back for a few duets including the excellent love song “Mornings with you” (she is married to Cleto Cordero).

This is a band that kept the audience engaged throughout with music with a real flavour of Texas with plenty of fiddle. Check out their latest album “Wandering Star”.

Two very talented acts that produce a great show and will soon be playing to bigger venues. Catch them if you can.

A great night of great music.
