Dawson, 17, who has interviewed a PM (twice) and Mr Speaker wins prestigious award (By Zoe, Emily, Kira and Freya, all 13)

Dawson, 17, has one a prestigious ‘Youth Award’ amazing service to the community and his school.

The inspirational student from the King Alfred School Academy won the award at the Burnham-on-Sea and Highbridge annual Civic Service Awards Ceremony. 

He has also interviewed a prime minister twice, once inside Downing Street in front of TV cameras, and Mr Speaker last month in the palace of Mr Speaker.

Nominated by Head Teacher, Mr. Milford, and Miss Keeble, teacher of Drama, Dawson’s win was not only a personal triumph but a testament to his unparalleled dedication and contribution to the TKASA community.

Mr Milford said that it was an “absolute privilege to attend the B-o-S and Highbridge Civic Service Awards Ceremony to see our ‘Awesome Dawson’ receive his Youth Award! What a star he is!”

Dawson’s award was presented by the Mayor of Burnham, Lesley Millard. Many members of the community attended the event to show their support, including members of the council.

Dawson achieved this award for his outstanding effort and unwavering commitment to The King Alfred School Academy and the community. Reflecting on his win, he remarked, “It’s nice for it to be appreciated”.

Dawson has lent his talents to numerous events around the school, including the recent sensation, Sister Act. Dawson worked on the technical aspects behind the scenes, including the sound and lighting to ensure the musical was a success. 

He has often taken on the role of videographer for several events around the school and in the local community, including the annual Remembrance Service.

Dawson has been an integral part of the Jill Dando team for six years. 

At the age of 12, Dawson visited 10 Downing Street, where he interviewed the Prime Minister, Boris Johnson. Most recently, Dawson went to the House of Commons to interview Mr Speaker and observe the current Prime Minister’s Question Time.

When asked his top tips for interviewing, Dawson’s advice to our aspiring journalists echoed his own journey – be confident, ask probing questions, and always have a plan.

In Year 11, Dawson became a Head Student and was, and continues to be, a fantastic role model and inspiration for the students at TKASA.
