Clevedon School Redevelopment Begins: New Classrooms and Athletics Track on the Way

By Education Correspondent
The redevelopment of Clevedon School will take a significant step forward when construction starts on replacement classrooms for the tented ‘Learning Village’ that was erected in September 2023 when the discovery of High Alumina Cement Concrete (HACC) closed 22 classrooms.
Placed on the Schools Rebuilding Programme in February 2024, detailed plans are currently being drawn up to completely redevelop and refurbish Clevedon School, which is part of the Futura Learning Partnership, whilst maintaining continuity of education.
The first significant step of these plans is to replace the emergency tented accommodation with brand new temporary classrooms from a specialist contractor, REDS10.
These new learning spaces, toilets and offices will be on site for the duration of the redevelopment whilst the permanent solution is finalised and constructed.
In addition to the temporary classrooms and as part of the same development phase, brand- new athletics track and jump pit will be constructed on the field.

Headteacher Jim Smith said, “After months of hard work, we will see the first visible steps in a redevelopment programme that will transform Clevedon School.
“I am delighted that students will be back in classrooms and that we will have a brand-new track for use by the school and North Somerset Athletic Club.”
Chris Millard, Head Coach of North Somerset Athletic Club said “We are delighted to be offered brand new facilities as part of the school redevelopment programme.
“The new facilities will secure the long-term future of our club at Clevedon School and provide us with the very best training opportunities for our athletes, enabling them to continue competing at regional and national level”.
Jim Smith, Headteacher added, “The new facilities will be a much needed boost to the school community that has coped so well in the emergency accommodation - which in the immediate discovery of HACC, meant we were able to keep all students in school.”
Contractors aim to mobilise to site from March 31st with enabling works due to commence on April 7th ahead of the installation of the new temporary accommodation over the summer.
