Clevedon School Cook’s Up Success In Prestigious National Awards

The UK’s best teachers and schools have been shortlisted in this year’s Tes Schools Awards.
The awards, dubbed the ‘Oscars of education’, celebrate the best of education across the country.
Clevedon School has been shortlisted for the national finals in the category of ‘Community Engagement Initiative Of The Year’ for its ‘Winter Warmers’ - when every Wednesday in January this year, the school invited members of the community to come into a warm space, enjoy a meal and watch some live entertainment.
Head of Food Technology and organiser of the events Kate Davies said, “I am thrilled that the judges have recognize what a great community initiative this was with so many students and staff all working together to put on these impressive community occasionswith our school caterers, Chartwells UK.”
Jim Smith Headteacher added, “This is a tremendous achievement and I am delighted for the students who were so passionate about creating and delivering these events.
So many students supported the event be it Front of House, on-stage entertainment or of course, but supporting our Chef in cooking the food. I hope it provides a launchpad for some to have careers in entertainment and hospitality.”
An expert panel of judges comprised of leaders in education selected a shortlisted the school having read testimony from members of the community who noted the skills and talents of the students as well as the joy the event brought to different members of the community.
Jon Severs, Editor of Tes Magazine, said: “We’ve seen some incredible entries nominated in this year’s awards.
The Tes Schools Awards are a highlight of the year, and it’s important that we properly recognise the fantastic work that's been done in education across the academic year.”
Winners will be announced on 20th June at a glittering gala at the Grosvenor Hotel, Park Lane, London.
