British woman inspires others by dreaming big despite challenges of cerebral palsy
When Ellise Hayward was born, she didn’t breathe for nearly 10 minutes. Doctors didn’t expect her to survive. Now 22, she’s not only alive, but despite the challenges of cerebral palsy, she’s dreaming big and, as CBS News’ Leah Mishkin reports, inspiring others along the way.

CBS News highlighted her use of high-tech Eye-Gaze technology to communicate and her powerful delivery of speeches from her walking frame.

"It's an honour to share my story with CBS News and to bring the positive message of Jill Dando News to an international stage," Ellise said after the interview.
“I hope that by sharing my experiences, I can inspire people around the world to embrace optimism and kindness."

The CBS News feature comes just months after Ellise inspired Mr Speaker and countless others during her ongoing UK tour.

Her appointment as the new patron of Jill Dando News marks a significant milestone in both her personal journey and the organization's mission to spread good news.

Ellise's story resonates with people from all walks of life, from students to Members of Parliament.

During a recent talk in front of fellow Jill Dando News patron Mr Speaker of the Houses of Parliament, Ellise urged students to embrace positivity.

"My message to you is one of good news," she said. "Optimism is what we all need more than ever before. I have had cerebral palsy from birth, but I can only see the positives. Life is beautiful."

As the Disabilities Editor for Jill Dando News and The Good News Post, Ellise has been dedicated to sharing uplifting stories about individuals with disabilities who are doing extraordinary things.

Her work, alongside student journalists, continues to spread good news and uphold Jill Dando's legacy of positive journalism.

The CBS News interview is expected to boost the profile of Jill Dando News and its mission to inspire young people across the world to be positive good news journalists.

The project, which began in 2017 at Worle School in Weston-super-Mare, the former school of BBC TV personality Jill Dando, has already expanded to include news rooms across Somerset and Malawi, Africa.

Gregg Morrison, Director of Secondary Education at The Priory Learning Trust and one of Ellise's long-time supporters, commented on the CBS News interview:

"This international recognition is a testament to Ellise's incredible impact. Her story and her message are universal, and I'm thrilled that CBS News has given her this platform to inspire even more people."

As Ellise's influence continues to grow, her commitment to spreading hope and positivity serves as a beacon of light in challenging times.
