Cathedral Goes Wild For Annual Pet Blessing
By Animal Correspondent
Ely Cathedral's annual animal service turned into a Noah's Ark, as 450 animal lovers and their furry (and not-so-furry) friends flocked to the historic site.
The star-studded event included the usual suspects – dogs, cats, and pocket pets – but it was a miniature pony and a donkey that really stole the show.
Eight-year-old Primrose and her pint-sized pony made the trek all the way from Buckinghamshire, proving that size doesn't matter when it comes to devotion.
While many canine congregants snoozed through the sermon, others couldn't help but add their voices to the hymns.
A cathedral spokesperson said the service was about "celebrating animals of every kind".
But it wasn't all just cute and cuddly. The service highlighted the critical role of working animals, with representatives from Medical Detection Dogs showcasing how man's best friend is also becoming medicine's secret weapon.
These talented pooches are sniffing out life-threatening diseases, including cancer, proving that sometimes the best noses in medicine have whiskers.
From therapy animals to police K-9s, the event honored the countless ways animals support and protect us.
So next time you hear someone say "it's a dog's life," remember – at Ely Cathedral, that's a badge of honor.
