Six members of Cambridge University visited Priory Community School in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset to talk about everything from different Colleges inside Cambridge University, to how their slogan “together we can change the world" inspires students worldwide.

Student journalists from the Jill Dando News Team at the school asked, "is there an Alumni community at your school?" and "could you name one thing you would change to improve accessibility for the disabled community that attend Cambridge?".

However, for the budding journalists, one question stood out most to them.

“I noticed that Trinity Halls features a Student News website", asked one of the teen journalists. “Is this student-led? How important is positive journalism at the university?”

Ángel Gurria-Quintana, Head of the Vice-Chancellor's Office (VCO) at Cambridge and contributor for the Financial Times was interested in the passion for journalism and answered the question very quickly, explaining how the college newspaper was indeed student led and independently run.

Explaining how editors at Varsity write about so many different topics, from politics to social events taking place inside of the local community, the VCO lit a spark in the student journalists who saw this as a fascinating career opportunity.

Gurria-Quintana mentioned how each different College inside of the University has its own website and how journalism is very much encouraged inside the Colleges.

They even have their own student run radio show!

The team also highlighted the fact that some of their news stories have been picked up by national newspapers.

"Students are our greatest advocates but also our greatest critics" shared Mike Nicholson Director of Recruitment, Admissions and Participation at Cambridge University.
