A Brisbane-based Clinical Psychologist, is set to release a debut series of children’s books designed to assist children in navigating complex emotional situations.

Clinical Psychologist now author, Olivia Yaksich, has penned a number of books aimed to help young readers and their families navigate stressors.

The debut book titled, Dani the Dachshund – Learns about his Fire Alarm, introduces Dani, a cute sausage dog who learns about his fight or flight system—what triggers it, how to recognise it, and most importantly, how to manage feelings of anxiety when faced with stress.

The delightful story is also a valuable resource for health professionals, teachers, guardians and parents seeking ways to help children understand their complex emotions.

This debut book is helpful for all children whether they struggle with anxiety, or whether they may be going through a difficult transition period.

Early childhood is a key developmental period for building concepts of self, emotional regulation skills, and forming stable attachments. Promoting processing of stressors in childhood is imperative to reduce the risk of poor mental health outcomes across the lifespan.

Children are also more vulnerable to self-blame and forming maladaptive coping strategies when faced with stress, when not given the right support to talk about their emotions effectively.

“I often work with adults who have never spoken about or processed stressful events in their childhood, and have developed negative self-worth or poor coping strategies that continue to impact their life now,” says Yaksich. “Through Dani’s story, children have a relatable character who shows them how to regulate their emotions and build resilience to stress from a young age.”

Pulling extensively from her professional background as a Clinical Psychologist, Yaksich has ensured the presented strategies are engaging and effective.

She also promises to expand on this foundation, tackling a variety of the complex emotional experiences that our children face such as parent separation.

Dani the Dachshund – Learns about his Fire Alarm will be available for purchase [November 1st 2024] online exclusively through Livwell Psychology, at www.livwellshop.com.au.
