A group of inspiring young women from Worle School are breaking down barriers and proving that the future of technology is female!
Twelve enthusiastic Year 9 students and one Year 8 student from the Weston-super-Mare adademy recently attended the Girls in Tech Day at the University of the West of England (UWE) in Bristol.
The exciting event designed to empower girls, challenge stereotypes, and ignite a passion for the world of technology.
The day was packed with hands-on workshops led by major industry players, including Nationwide, CGI (a cyber security company), and expert UWE lecturers.
Students had the unique opportunity to interact with female role models, explore the vast range of tech careers, and discover how STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) can open doors to exciting futures.
Throughout the day, the Worle students tackled four interactive challenges designed to highlight the essential non-technical skills that drive success in the tech industry—such as problem-solving, collaboration, and effective communication.
Headteacher Mark Tidman praised the students for their enthusiasm and commitment, saying: “We are passionate about encouraging more female students into STEM subjects and supporting them to thrive in their future careers.
“Our students represented the school fantastically well, and they all left with a stronger understanding of the incredible opportunities available in the tech industry.”
