Brilliant school wins prestigious musical competition for first time in history

The King Alfred School Academy, in Highbridge won Somerset’s prestigious competition ‘Battle of the Bands’ when facing other schools.

In the KS3 section of the competition, TKASA’s The Atoms performed Zombie by the Cranberries and Hysteria by Muse, however were unlucky to not finish in the prizes after their outstanding performance but received praise from the judges and audience members.

In the KS4 section, Canvas Moon performed When September Ends by Greenday and Nirvana’s In Bloom, with the band being named the KS4 winners and Sedgemoor Battle of the Bands overall champions 2019.

Year 7 drummer Josh Ford picked up the award for the best instrumentalist, and Canvas Moon won a session in a professional recording studio later this year.

Head of Music and Head of Creative Arts Laura Whiteoak said “I’m proud of everyone who took part and the KS4 band did extremely well to win the trophy when up against other great bands. 

“Big thank you to all who took part and all staff, students and parents who travelled to cheer us on. We are looking forward to next year.”
