Brilliant Bailey, 8, signs for professional football team and celebrates by witnessing one of Britain’s best ever promotion victories

By Jill Dando News

Brilliant Bailey has landed on the books of high-flying Bristol Rovers, despite being only in Year 3 at St Anne’s Church Academy in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.

The fabulous pupil was offered a contract with Bristol Rovers Academy starting in August for the Under 9s.

Then after signing his contract at the Memorial Stadium, Bristol he was a flag bearer and witnessed Rovers thrash Scunthorpe 7-0 – a staggering result which just did exactly enough to secure promotion to Division One.

Rovers snatched automatic promotion from League Two on goals scored after a dramatic final afternoon, clinching the crucial seventh goal with five minutes to go.

Bailey also met the players and Manager and had a tour of the Stadium.

In recent months, Bailey has played away at Manchester City and is playing Manchester United in the next couple of weeks.

Headteacher Emma Hardy-Smith said: “We are so delighted for Bailey and he is already having some incredible experiences during his time at Bristol Rovers.”

St Anne’s Church Academy is a high achieving and happy caring school.

It is the first school in North Somerset to receive the highly prized Social Media School Award.

It is part of The Priory Learning Trust and has a Jill Dando News Centre to cover positive stories from the school, community and the world.

It was founded in honour of former Weston resident Jill Dando who rose to become one of Britain’s best journalists.

She was also kind, humble and the smiling face of journalism.
