Bean the Cat Earns Volunteer Title for Her ‘Paws-itively’ Amazing Service!

A cat has been honored with an award for drawing customers into a charity shop in Somerset that she visits regularly.
Eight-year-old Bean has been making daily visits to the Sue Ryder charity shop on Severn Drive in Taunton for the past five years, whenever the shop is open.

Bean's owner, Hayley Poole Wood, received a certificate on behalf of the "local celebrity" for helping attract customers and raise funds for the charity.
Ms. Poole Wood shared, "I was really touched, but also found it funny when the shop manager called to tell me the news."
She added, "If her presence can encourage people to come in and help Sue Ryder raise more money, I’m more than happy for her to be here, spreading joy."
Shop manager Vicky Woods commented, "Bean is our most loyal volunteer. She waits outside every morning and spends most of the day with us, absolutely loving shop life."
Ms. Woods explained that the award was for Bean’s consistent presence each morning and for "making every customer smile as they enter."
"Many people come just to say hello to her, so it’s not an exaggeration to say that Bean plays a role in directly supporting the care and services we offer," Ms. Woods said.

Over the Christmas period, the shop held a contest where children won prizes for drawing pictures of Bean, which were displayed in the shop’s window.
"What was lovely about that was that she waits outside every morning, so she got to see her portraits on display," Ms. Woods added.
"She really is a local celebrity."
