The walls of Weston-Super-Mare are brought alive (By Amelie, 13)

Weston Wallz, a street art festival in Weston-Super-Mare run by Europe’s International Street Art Hub ‘Upfest’,  returned to brighten the town In Somerset.

Some 18 new large scale street-art pieces were painted across the seaside town, adding to the 46 artworks already created by local, national & International artists in Weston since 2021. 

The week featured a colourful street art trail and a number of free practical spray paint and character drawing workshops.

Transformative pieces spread across the town, with a mixture of skilled artists involved, including: 

Anna Higgie – Sovereign Centre 

Dave Bain –Sovereign Centre 

Dave McMillan- Kings Lane

Emotional waterfall – The Stable Games Room

Epod -Meadow Street

Hass Oxford Corner Cafe

Jack Lack- Bay And Harbour – Completed

Karl Read – Blues Bar

Lauren Clark* - Citizens Advice Centre

There were a number of original workshops scheduled, as well as a live ‘art jam’ where spectators could watch live art to live music. 

A mentoring dimension to the programme was introduced this year to help bolster up and coming artists and ensure the festival sees upscaling and growth. 

Urban Butterfly artist Emma Klu-Holloway, who gained popularity on the streets of Stokes Croft in Bristol with her 30 foot transformative butterfly piece to restore hope after Covid 19 in 2020, is now emerging in Weston Super-Mare.
