Yet another good news dog story as tail-wagging Ernie rescued from cliff
By Jill Dando News
We all love a happy good news dog story.
Now Ernie the golden Labrador is the latest after turning a routine walk into an adventure.
The curious canine took an unexpected detour off a 60-foot cliff on the Swanage Downs in Dorset, giving his owner quite a scare!
Luckily, Ernie's daring dive was cut short by a ledge 20 feet down. Coastguard teams from Swanage and St Albans rushed to the scene, ready to perform a heroic rescue.
But Ernie had other plans!

As the Swanage Coastguard reported: "The teams rigged up their rope equipment to send a coastguard down to retrieve Ernie, however things changed when he suddenly appeared back up at the top."
That's right - this clever pup decided he didn't need a human hero after all! Seeing the coastguard preparing to descend, Ernie mustered his courage and scrambled back up the cliff face, surprising and delighting everyone.
With wagging tail and muddy paws, Ernie was reunited with his relieved owner.
Both Swanage and St Albans Coastguard teams were tasked to investigate locating the dog stuck.
Setting up the rope equipment the teams were about to deploy the rope technician when suddenly Ernie decided to come back up without the help of the Coastguard teams.
Having thanked the Coastguard teams Ernie (now on a lead) headed back to town with his owners.
The Swanage Coastguard cheerfully noted: "Having thanked the coastguard teams, Ernie, now on a lead, headed safely back to town with his owners."
While Ernie's adventure ended happily, the coastguard kindly reminds all dog owners: "Please keep dogs on a lead near the cliff edge." After all, not every pup can pull off a great escape like Ernie!
