Fifth in world for ex student of The Castle School

Ex Student of The Castle School finished an incredible fifth in the World Para Athletics Championships at her first attempt.

The 28 year old Hannah Taunton did amazing in the 1500 metre final in Dubai competing for for the first time for Team GB, finishing fifth in the World Para Athletics Championships.

Hannah, who represents Taunton Athletics Club and Running Forever, was up against the world’s best in Dubai on Sunday morning, and narrowly missed out on her personal best.

Following a steady first lap, Taunton surged to the front and was in the lead as the race reached its halfway mark.

Taunton was overtaken towards the end of the penultimate lap and Polish athlete Barbara Bieganowska – also the World Record holder – ran clear to win the race.

The Castle School is one of Britain’s best schools and has hundreds of extra curricular activities including sports clubs.

A spokesperson for The Castle School said: “We are immensely proud of Hannah Taunton, who came 5th in her first world champs race competing in the T20 1500m category. Well done Hannah!”
