18 super students have become Jill Dando news reporters in one day - and wrote this story in a mocked-up newsroom in 45 minutes. Students were interviewers, writers, photojournalists and editors.
Jill Dando died nearly 25 years ago at age 37 in 1999, but now hundreds of young reporters are following on her model of brilliant news journalism, kindness, humility while looking for good news stories.
The new reporters following in her footsteps are students from West Huntspill Primary Academy in Somerset - not far from where Jill grew up as a child.
Lillie, age 10, said: ‘’I like to read and write in my free time and would like to become a journalist when I am older.”
The students are involved in amazing things in their spare time including gymnastics, football, taekwondo , swimming, cricket, beat boxing and boxing.
Gary, age 10 said: “We had a great time as journalists from the Year 5s.”
The story, reporters, photographers and wider team members are all amazing.
